Michael Ango assumes duty as Ag. Executive Chairman, FCT-IRS
Mr. Michael Ango, the newly appointed Acting Executive Chairman, Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has assumed duty on Tuesday following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday, August 9, 2024. Ango who arrived at the FCT-IRS headquarters at 11.00 am was received by the immediate past Acting Executive Chairman, Mr. Haruna Y. Abdullahi.
While addressing the Management Staff, the new Ag. Executive Chairman assured them, staff and other stakeholders, that he would run an open administration hence he would depend on the support of everyone in the Service including the immediate past Ag. Executive Chairman.
He said his mandate was a very straight forward one, to implement Mr. President’s vision for making Nigeria, a truly prosperous nation, that is able to provide its citizens with the opportunities and environment to meet their individual and collective aspirations. With particular focus on the FCT.
Ango added that he would work to support the agenda of His Excellency, the Honourable Minister of FCT to create a modern and truly 21st century capital city that provides infrastructure, social services and a secure citizen friendly environment comparable to any developed nation in the world.
According to him, the Honourable Minister has already shown that he is committed to doing so, as can be attested to, with all the infrastructural development ongoing and completed in the last one year in Abuja.
The Acting Executive Chairman noted that FCT-IRS is the major source of revenue for the territory such that FCT would be able to fund its major projects from the revenue collection by the Service with minimal dependence on federal
allocation.
Ango stated that there would be no room for laxity, incompetence or other negative tendencies that would not align with the vision and goals of Mr. President and the Honourable Minister of FCT.
He described the immediate past Acting Executive Chairman as a friend, brother and colleague over the years.
“We will work together to make the transition seamless, with minimal disruption to our day to day operations. For all the staff, we will embark on a new journey from today and I need cooperation of everyone in the Service. I thank you all for warmly receiving me and I look forward to working with all of you starting from now” he stated.
Earlier in his remarks, the outgoing Acting Executive Chairman Mr. Haruna Y. Abdullahi said it has been a pleasure serving as the Acting Executive Chairman of FCT-IRS. Reflecting on his time in the role, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead and contribute to the Service success.
He said the Service was excited to welcome a new administration filled with new bustling ideas and strategies that would further improve revenue generation. He assured the new Acting Executive Chairman of his continued support adding that the Service will ensure a seamless handover process.
He described Mr Ango as a friend of the Service since its inception. Hence, having him head the Service was a great honour for the agency as he would bring his wealth of experience and deep expertise in the field of taxation to bear, which would benefit the Service greatly.
“It is an honor to welcome our brother this morning. I would like to say that the Service has been waiting for this day for close to a year now. We are really excited, I have said it since Friday at the FCT-IRS 2024 Management Retreat when the news came out and I had to inform everyone that we should also be grateful that Mr. Ango is not just a friend of mine but he is a friend of the Service. In most cases he even knows more about the Service and the history of the Service than most of us here.
“The institution has come a long way, we are excited with this development because Mr. Michael has always been part of this institution. He has always been there for me when I needed him. He has never said no to me or the FCT-IRS. I am really happy that this is happening. I have assured him that I will always be around if he needs me.
“I will always be available for any clarity he may require. FCT-IRS has been my blood, my family for the last 6 to 7 years so anything that pertains to the Service I will be interested in being part of it” he added.
