A Celebrity Fashion Designer, popularly known as Seyi Vodi has advocated for prompt payment of taxes to fast track the actualisation of Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the infrastructural development in the Federal Capital Territory.
Vodi made the call during his visit to the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) Corporate Headquarters on Friday to file his Annual Tax Return.
He urged business men in the FCT and the country to discharge their civic responsibility by voluntarily paying their taxes to facilitate the development of the territory and the country in general.
“It is noble to pay your taxes because it is this money the government uses for infrastructural development and provision of public services to the people.
“I am urging my fellow business man especially tailors to come forward and voluntary discharge this civic responsibility for the progress of the FCT and Nigeria as a whole.
“I must commend the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr Nyesom Wike for the giant strides recorded within two years as a minister. I have been a resident of the FCT for the past 25 years, since my NYSC days, I know what FCT used to be and know what it is now.
“The infrastructural development by the present FCT minister is unprecedented in terms of road projects and security, the projects are so visible, it’s only the blind that will not see how the capital city has been transformed” he stated.
In his remarks, the Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT-IRS, Mr Michael Ango commended the celebrity fashion designer for taking this bold step by voluntarily coming to the Service to file his return without being coarsed.
Ango said his action was worthy of emulation by other business men and wealthy persons in the FCT adding that Vodi is the first High Networth Individual to file his Annual Tax Return for the year.
He however appealed to the celebrity to take the campaigns on voluntary compliance to his fellow business men to come forward and exercise this civic responsibility for the progress of the territory.
“The Minister has turned Abuja into a world class capital city and the citizens need to support this progress by living up to their responsibilities so that the FCT administration will have enough resources to do more” he said
Ango pledged that the Service would give Vodi a letter of commendation to appreciate him for being the first High Networth Individual to file his Annual return.
